Otago Central Rail Trail

This is the one you've been looking for. The Otago Central Rail Trail encompasses everything that's stunning about Central Otago –  amazing landscapes, history, the finest local wine and cuisine, and legendary Southern hospitality.

As its name will tell you, the Rail Trail follows the former railway line between Middlemarch and Clyde for 152km. It takes you through charming trailside towns where you can enjoy a pit stop and exchange stories with the locals. 

Known as New Zealand's 'Original Great Ride,' this acclaimed trail has something around every bend. Ride over historic railway viaducts and through tunnels and explore what remains of the famous gold rush.  

Take your time with this one. We recommend spending at least four or five days cycling the trail to truly to soak up all that Central Otago has to offer.
